The Cob Oven today....

So here is The Cob Oven a couple of weeks later, after it has had a chance to dry slowly, which I had hoped would make a difference, but it has not.

The mix was not right. It had way too much sand content, not enough soil. I kinda felt it the day we were mixing it, but we were too far into it to try to find dirt. This is how it dried and as heart breaking as it is, it will have to be redone. However, I will not bother to take out the sand "void", will just make a new/better mix and remove this and replace it with a better mix. Then we can add the second layer, which IS a good mix from the previous oven. We could not use that because it has straw in it and the first layer must be only clay, sand and soil. Also want to mention, that we wore rubber boots last time because it was so cold, the mix was just too cold to put bear feet into.
